Match rates cover the last 7 days and are shown once a marketplace has at least 10 comparable checks. Coverage compares the listings we track with the marketplace's own total.
How the check works
Every night we draw a random sample of active listings from every marketplace, open each one at the source, read it with the same parser that collected it, and compare the price, mileage, model year, trim, photo and availability with what we show.
A listing we could not open, because the marketplace blocked the request or did not answer in time, counts as unverified, never as a match.
What our labels mean
- Typical price
- The middle asking price of comparable listings (same make, model, year and trim). We show it only when at least 3 are listed.
- Great price and good price
- Great price: at least 20% below the typical price. Good price: at least 10% below it (12% when we have no independent valuation for the model). Both need at least 5 listings on at least 2 marketplaces, and a gap larger than 45% is treated as a data error, not a deal.
- Likely sold
- The listing left its marketplace in a pattern consistent with a sale, not an ad that expired or was posted again. When the marketplace itself says sold, we say sold. Time-to-sell figures appear only once a model has at least 8 sales in 90 days.
- Days listed
- Counted from the first time the car was advertised, including earlier ads for the same car that were taken down and posted again.
- Checked
- When we last re-read the listing at its marketplace. If a listing has not been re-checked for 48 hours, we flag it.
