Used-car inspection checklist for Saudi Arabia
Our prices help you find the right listing — but only a proper inspection tells you whether one specific car is sound. Here's what to check before you buy, and what Saudi Arabia's heat, dust and long highway distances do to a used car.
Before you go: check the listing
Confirm the year, trim, mileage and spec match what you expect, and compare the asking price in riyals with the typical price for that model in Saudi Arabia. A price far below typical isn't always a bargain — note it and ask why when you call the seller.
Body and paint
In daylight, look down each panel for mismatched paint, uneven gaps or overspray — signs of accident repair. The sun here is hard on paint, plastics and dashboards, and dust and sand add their own wear, so badly faded trim or a cracked dash hints at a car that has lived outside for years.
Tyres, brakes and underneath
Heat ages tyres faster here, so check the manufacture date on the sidewall as well as the tread. Uneven wear points to alignment or suspension trouble — common on cars that spend their lives on long highway runs — and you should look for fluid leaks underneath and listen for knocks over bumps.
Engine and electronics
Start the engine from cold if you can — it tells you more. Watch for smoke, warning lights that stay on, and rough idling. Test everything electrical: windows, locks, screens, cameras and above all the air conditioning, which is essential in this climate and expensive to put right.
Service history and ownership
Ask for service records, how many previous owners the car has had, and whether any of the local agent's warranty is left. A full stamped history from a recognised workshop is one of the strongest signs of a well-kept car and supports a higher fair price.
Paperwork and the periodic inspection
Check that the istimara matches the car and the seller, that the periodic inspection (Fahes / MVPI) is current where one is due, and that there are no unpaid fines or outstanding finance against the car — much of this can be verified through Absher before you pay. Always test drive, and if you can't judge a car confidently yourself, a paid independent inspection is cheap insurance on a big purchase.
